The GPS of Mindset: Why Leaders Get Stuck in Loops

I’m passionate about mindset, and I talk about managing it often.

Your brain can be like a GPS that keeps recalculating and rerouting you in circles. Mindset is choosing the destination and setting the course.

Mindset isn’t about positive spins or pretending everything is fine. That’s toxic.

Mindset is about managing your mind.

We often slip into pre-traumatic stress—worrying about what might happen. Useful in some cases. But when left unsupervised, the GPS keeps rerouting and recalculating:

This project is going to fail.

I’m behind in my career.

They’re never going to call.

I’ll miss my number.

The more these loops run, the more anxious and stuck we feel.

Here’s what I believe. Preparation is one thing, but living in constant worry is another.

Your thoughts drive your actions.

When your brain is set to “I’m going to miss my target,” your body reacts with stress, and you end up acting from fear. That’s why mindset work matters.

We’re not trying to jump from “I’m going to miss my target” straight to “I crushed my goal!” That’s not believable. Instead, we need to reset.

“I’m going to miss my target” becomes “I have a target.”

This shift, from fear to fact, stops the constant rerouting and helps you move forward with clarity.

The best part? One day, you realize you’ve changed the route. And that’s an incredible feeling, because if you can redirect one thought, you can redirect the next.

Mindset work with a trained coach was the most extraordinary gift I gave myself.
