When Fear Shows Up at Work...When Fear Shows Up at Work...
When fear shows up at work, it sucks. However, it doesn't always look like fear.
When we think of fear, we conjure these images of people cowering in a corner, hiding from a threat, or shaking in their seats. 😨
In the workplace, people acting out of fear may appear controlling or aggressive. Passive-aggressive. Arrogant or angry. They may be defensive and hesitant to collaborate. They may just be stubborn.
On the other hand, fear can immobilize people. They may appear obsessive. They may avoid risks and fly under the radar.
No matter how fear appears in your body and mindset, know it's normal. It means that everything works exactly how it should to keep you alive.
Fear keeps you from darting into traffic or eating undercooked meat-- those are nice, rational fears that keep you well.
👉 But the irrational fears like fear of failure or fear of success just keep you playing small. There is no threat to your survival if you take a risk to ask for a raise, put your hand up for that promotion, or burn everything and start a new career.
Is it scary?
Hell yeah.
Will it kill you?
Mmmmmm, probably not.
What irrational fear is holding you back today?
Are you curious about what your career would look like if you learned how to manage the fear? Working through uncertainty and moving to what's new and what's next is possible.
